About CAD

Computer-aided design (CAD) makes use of computer technology to design objects. CAD is used to design both two dimensional (2D) curves as well as three dimensional (3D) solid objects. Cad jobs are greatly in demand across numerous industries.

CAD is a critical component of modern manufacturing and is used extensively in countless industries including automotive, shipbuilding, aerospace, medical, and architecture. 2D and 3D CAD drawings are used to specify the exact design of each component that goes into the manufacture of cars, planes, medical devices, and nearly every other manufactured item. The Cad drafting job of technical and engineering drawings must convey symbolic information such as materials, processes, dimensions, and tolerances used in manufacturing.

CAD is mainly used for detailed engineering of 2D or 3D drawings of physical components, but it is also used throughout the engineering process from conceptual design and layout of products, through strength and dynamic analysis of assemblies to definition of manufacturing methods of components.

Other Uses of CAD

Other uses of CAD include the design of tools and machinery, the drafting and design of buildings and houses, and the production of computer animation for special effects in movies.

CAD Sofware

Computer-Aided Design software packages range from 2D vector-based drafting systems to 3D solid and surface modelers. Modern CAD packages allow the creation and manipulation of virtual objects which can be rotated in three dimensions. This allows designers to view a designed object from any angle, including interior components. Detailed analyses can be performed on designed objects include strength testing, stress analysis, and thermal analysis. Some CAD software can perform dynamic mathematic modeling as well. The software is known as computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) in this case.
